Vincent van Gogh (1853–1890) was a Dutch Post-Impressionist painter whose expressive line, bold color, and emotional intensity made him one of the most influential figures in Western art. During his stay in Arles in the south of France in 1888, he formed a close friendship with the local postman Joseph Roulin, whom he depicted repeatedly in both paintings and drawings.

This reed-pen and ink drawing relates to Van Gogh's celebrated series of portraits of Roulin. It shows the postman in his uniform cap lettered "POSTES," his full beard fanning out below a weathered, kindly face. Van Gogh renders the figure entirely through dense hatching, cross-hatching, and short directional strokes, a graphic technique he developed to translate his painterly energy into line.

The subject is presented in bust length, gazing slightly to the side, his heavy coat sketched with vigorous parallel marks. Behind him, the background is filled with a woven pattern of crosshatched squares, creating a textured, almost vibrating field that pushes the sitter forward. The result is a warm, intensely characterful likeness of an ordinary working man Van Gogh clearly admired.

Real art, not AI. An authentic work by a real artist — Vincent van Gogh, reproduced from the original — never machine-generated.

A print that lasts. Water-based pigment inks are pressed into the fabric — no plastic, no cracking, no peeling — so the design stays soft and breathes with the shirt.

Garment-dyed color. Dyed into the finished garment for a soft, vintage-washed tone with subtle depth — richer and more lived-in than a standard printed tee.

Printed on a premium Comfort Colors 1717 garment-dyed tee — heavyweight ringspun cotton with a soft, broken-in feel and a relaxed unisex fit. True to size; size down for a more fitted look.
