Adolphe Willette — À la Pensée (ca. 1900) Vintage Art Nouveau Portrait Tee

Adolphe Willette (1857–1926) was a French painter, illustrator, and poster artist closely associated with the bohemian Montmartre scene of late 19th-century Paris. He contributed to famed cabarets and illustrated journals of the Belle Époque, and his work often blended sentiment, whimsy, and decorative charm.

À la Pensée ("To the Pansy") plays on the French word pensée, which means both the flower and "thought." The composition centers a fair-haired young woman whose head is framed by the enormous purple-and-cream petals of a single oversized pansy, its green stems curling against a warm golden-yellow ground — a decorative flourish typical of the Art Nouveau era's fusion of figure and flora.

The woman gazes directly outward with blue eyes and softly flushed cheeks, holding a warm-hued folding fan before her. A white garment or drape across her shoulders bears the flowing cursive word "Henry," accented with small sprigs of green foliage. The artist's signature, "A. Willette," appears at the lower right.
