Takahashi Hiroaki, who often signed his work Shōtei, was a Japanese woodblock print artist active in the early twentieth century. He was among the prolific designers associated with the shin-hanga ("new prints") movement, which revived the traditional ukiyo-e collaborative system of artist, carver, and printer while embracing atmospheric light, mood, and Western-influenced perspective.
This print, titled Junks in Inatori Bay, Izu, depicts a cluster of traditional wooden sailing junks moored in a calm coastal bay along the Izu Peninsula. The scene is set at twilight, with a slender crescent moon hanging in a sky that graduates from deep blue overhead to warm orange near the horizon. A small figure poles a boat at right, while lantern lights glow from the vessels and reflect in long streaks across the rippled water. Dark forested hills and a shoreline settlement recede into the distance.
The composition shows the hallmarks of shin-hanga: subtle tonal gradations in the sky and water, a serene nocturnal atmosphere, and careful attention to the reflected glow of light on the sea. Japanese characters and the artist's red seal appear in the lower portion of the design.
Real art, not AI. An authentic work by a real artist — Takahashi Hiroaki (Shōtei), reproduced from the original — never machine-generated.
A print that lasts. Water-based pigment inks are pressed into the fabric — no plastic, no cracking, no peeling — so the design stays soft and breathes with the shirt.
Garment-dyed color. Dyed into the finished garment for a soft, vintage-washed tone with subtle depth — richer and more lived-in than a standard printed tee.
Printed on a premium Comfort Colors 1717 garment-dyed tee — heavyweight ringspun cotton with a soft, broken-in feel and a relaxed unisex fit. True to size; size down for a more fitted look.
