This is a modern take on a hand-coloured plate titled "Musik," published in Copenhagen in 1850. The plate's artist and publisher are not recorded. The seller cut the violin and its bow from the original plate — which also showed a flute, a clarinet and a guitar — and reimagined them as a tall, poster-style composition.
The design centres on a classically shaped violin rendered in warm cream and aged ivory tones, with dark scroll, pegbox, fingerboard and tailpiece. The elegant f-holes, four strings and curving bouts are clearly visible, and the matching bow stands upright alongside the instrument. The soft, parchment-like colouring reflects the character of a mid-19th-century coloured plate.
Set vertically beside the instruments is the word "Adagio" — a musical tempo marking meaning slowly — with the script line "at ease, with feeling" below it. This lettering was added by the seller and is not part of the original plate.
Real art, not AI. A modern take on a real original, reimagined, with our own lettering added. No AI-generated images, ever.
A print that lasts. Water-based pigment inks are pressed into the fabric — no plastic, no cracking, no peeling — so the design stays soft and breathes with the shirt.
Garment-dyed color. Dyed into the finished garment for a soft, vintage-washed tone with subtle depth — richer and more lived-in than a standard printed tee.
