Alphonse Mucha — Music (Les Arts) (1898) Vintage Art Nouveau Tee
Alphonse Mucha (1860–1939) was a Czech painter and decorative artist who became one of the defining figures of the Art Nouveau movement after rising to fame in Paris in the 1890s. His signature style—elegant women framed by flowing hair, ornamental borders, and soft, harmonious color—made him one of the most recognizable graphic artists of the era.
"Music" comes from Mucha's decorative panel series "Les Arts" ("The Arts"), in which each panel personifies one of the arts as a graceful female figure. This sheet represents Music, presented in the richly ornamental, poster-like manner that characterizes Mucha's decorative work of the period.
The design shows a young woman in a flowing pale gown, her long hair cascading in sinuous strands across the composition. She rests her hands near her ears, as if listening, set against a large circular medallion patterned with decorative discs. Behind her, stylized foliage and a bird appear among the leaves, while soft peach and muted tones frame the scene. The artist's "Mucha" signature is visible at the lower right.
