Alphonse Mucha (1860–1939) was a Czech artist who became one of the defining figures of the Art Nouveau movement in Paris. His fame was closely tied to the stage star Sarah Bernhardt, for whom he designed a celebrated series of theatrical posters beginning in the mid-1890s.
This lithographic poster was created for the production of La Samaritaine, a biblical verse drama by Edmond Rostand set to music by Gabriel Pierné, staged at the Théâtre de la Renaissance with Sarah Bernhardt in the leading role. The poster carries her name across the top and the play's credits below, printed by F. Champenois, Paris — hallmarks of Mucha's signature theatrical posters.
The design centers on a tall, robed woman with flowing golden hair, set against a large decorative disc patterned like radiating mosaic tiles that forms a halo behind her. She rests one hand on a rounded vessel, evoking the well of the Samaritan woman from the play's subject. A smaller kneeling figure appears at her feet, and the whole composition is framed by the ornamental lettering and floral borders typical of Mucha's Belle Époque style.
Real art, not AI. An authentic work by a real artist — Alphonse Mucha, reproduced from the original — never machine-generated.
A print that lasts. Water-based pigment inks are pressed into the fabric — no plastic, no cracking, no peeling — so the design stays soft and breathes with the shirt.
Garment-dyed color. Dyed into the finished garment for a soft, vintage-washed tone with subtle depth — richer and more lived-in than a standard printed tee.
Printed on a premium Comfort Colors 1717 garment-dyed tee — heavyweight ringspun cotton with a soft, broken-in feel and a relaxed unisex fit. True to size; size down for a more fitted look.
