Alphonse Mucha — Femme à marguerite (Woman with Daisy, ca. 1898–1900) Art Nouveau Tee
Alphonse Mucha (1860–1939) was a Czech painter and decorative artist who became one of the defining figures of the Art Nouveau movement. After rising to fame in Paris in the 1890s with his theatrical posters and ornamental panels, his flowing, decorative style became so closely associated with the era that it was widely called "le style Mucha."
This decorative panel, known as Femme à marguerite ("Woman with Daisy"), is a classic example of Mucha's ornamental work, with the artist's signature visible within the design. It embodies the hallmarks of Art Nouveau: a serene female figure framed by sinuous, intertwining plant forms and an intricate, flattened decorative scheme.
The image shows a young woman with cascading golden hair, dressed in flowing pale robes, set against a deep burgundy background. She is surrounded by a dense, swirling tangle of foliage, curling vines, and blossoms — pale roses, daisies, and trumpet-shaped flowers — that frame her and fill the composition with rhythmic, organic line.
