Adolphe Willette — Magnitta, Les Ambassadeurs (1895) Vintage French Belle Époque Poster Tee
Adolphe Willette (1857–1926) was a French painter, illustrator, and poster artist active in the lively artistic milieu of Montmartre during the Belle Époque. He contributed to celebrated cabarets and illustrated journals of late nineteenth-century Paris, and his graphic work captures the era's blend of elegance and theatrical charm.
This colour lithograph was produced as an advertising poster for an appearance at Les Ambassadeurs, the famous café-concert on the Champs-Élysées in Paris. It was printed by the noted Parisian firm Imprimeries Lemercier, 57 rue de Seine, whose imprint appears at the lower edge of the sheet.
The design presents a delicately rendered portrait of a young woman with abundant auburn hair and bare shoulders, set within a white oval. Surrounding her is an ornate, gilded scrollwork frame in the Rococo-revival style. Bold red lettering reads "AMBASSADEURS" across the top, while a cartouche at the base bears the performer's name, "Magnitta," in flowing script.
